Did Obama play the race card?

I think the Clintons are using Jedi mind tricks on people.

I seem to recall at the beginning of the campaign Obama went out of his way not to say anything about race. he was completely silent on the Jena 6 (even when the rest of the candidates went down to LA to pander). His been about nothing but unity.

Clinton and the media dragged race into the game. So Clinton turning around and blame Obama for playing the race card is joke.

Did Obama play the race card?
No. It wouldn't have been to his advantage. He has more common sense than to risk pissing off the majority of the population. Otherwise he wouldn't have made it this far. Playing the race card wouldn't have gotten him so much support from predominantly "white" areas.
Reply:I think both Obama and Hillary have gone out of their way not to bring race into the campaign, but their supporters have had other ideas at times. I think the media brought the question of race into this campaign. If you remember, the first time I heard race brought into the discussion was right after the New Hampshire primary when Hillary surprised the media pollsters and actually won. There were several suggestions by various guests that the "Bradley" effect was the explanation for the pollsters getting it so wrong. From that point forward, things went downhill with everything that was said being blown out of all proportion on both sides courtesy of the media (especially MSNBC who adores Obama by the way). I think that we should all take a deep breath and deside upon the best candidate to be president based on character, experience, and ability to deal with stress and pressure. There are some serious issues facing this country and everybody better get real and stop listening to all this garbage that is on TV day in and day out.
Reply:Yes, Obama did play the race card. For example, in response to Reverend Wright's anti-white racism and America-hating comments, Obama said, "I can no more disown him [Reverend Wright] than I can disown the black community." Associating Reverend Wright with the broader black community is playing the race card.

Also, a Clinton supporter Geraldine Ferraro said, "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position." And Obama responded, "I don’t think Geraldine Ferraro’s comments have any place in our politics or in the Democratic Party. They are divisive." He had no basis for objecting. Ferraro was right, for once.

So he has played the race card. And just because Clinton has played the race card too doesn't excuse Obama for doing the same thing. But I'd say that Obama hasn't played it very much. A little bit of that is to be expected, and he's still playing it a lot less than other black leaders. So I wouldn't hold it against him too much. Especially since there are plenty of other things to hold against him.
Reply:What's a race card? Have you played? Have I played? How is it defined? Is it invisible? Somehow, these two words have slipped into the media and the minds of people. I am reminded that I have certain advantages, because I play a game where I have a special trump card. And, who can use this card? Anybody who's black? All I know is what the statistics show, and if this card was so powerful and so widespread, I think that African Americans would be more of an economical and political force in America.

So, after that little rave....I don't believe in a race card; so therefore, Obama hasn't played something that doesn't really exist. A Jedi mind trick is a good analogy.
Reply:I'm not certain that he did, but it was played on his behalf.

A number of people from Obama's campaign, the media, and his followers (examples on YA abound) have been talking about how the demographics of PA are/were unfavorable. This is why they lost. This is why they did not expect to win.

Conversely, a lot of people have been talking about how very favorable the demographics of NC are for Obama. Everyone is expecting him to win, and by a considerable margin. A number of his more staunch supporters on here have said "Just wait for North Carolina..." etc. etc. (One even went on to elaborate with comments that were truly racist *cough*Gale H*cough*) Why are they expecting to win by 10 in NC when they lost by 10 in PA? Magic? No.

After Obama won HANDILY in South Carolina, what did Bill Clinton say that was so bad? Jesse Jackson won SC twice? That's a statement of fact. A significant fact considering AA voters are voting for Obama like 9 to 1. He was alluding to Obama's demographic edge, using an example to do so.
Reply:Hillary Clinton functions like a demon. I truly believe she is satan led, with her cunning lies and manipulations. She is the one who played the race card. She knows that racism divides the people; so she played it to divide the people against Obama, because he was winning in the primaries, which meant that he was bringing the people together. She doesn't care about America. She will continue her attack on Obama, either until he drops out or until the American people wise up and vote against her. She's a despicable woman and she doesn't care who gets hurt, as long as she wins.
Reply:It looks to me as if YOU are now playing the race card. Obama threw his white grandmother under the bus calling her a typical white person. He defended Rev Wright after that idiot said some pretty disgusting things about white people. Not to mention his "GOD DAMNED AMERICA" hate speech. That scandal is not going away anytime soon. It will hurt Obama badly as we get closer to the general election in November. If Obama were to stick to his #1 rule he declared right from the beginning that is to not use race as an issue. He would have denouced and disown Rev Wright for saying AIDS was developed by the US gov't to kill more blacks. There is no defense of the indefensible!!
Reply:Nope. I haven't seen him play the race card once - he is actually been going out of his way to ignore the issue of race completely. Too bad a bunch of Hillary supporters are committed to making it a race issue, including pretending that Obama supporters are calling them racists for not supporting Obama when no such thing has ever happened to anybody who didn't deserve it.
Reply:yes the Clintons did drag race into the campaign. And they did it on purpose. And hilary knew exactly what would happen. Just 'stir the ingredients' she mulled.

but it blew up in her big crowned teeth face. I can't stand the woman. She says what she is EXpected to say. She has no position. other than what Bill feeds to her, or residuals from bush's aesops's fables...
Reply:They absolutely did play the race card against Clinton. Wake up. After the black activist went after Clinton, Obama started getting 90%+ of the black vote. Don't think for a minute that that was not a concerted effort on Obama's part. Bill Clinton a racist? What joke!
Reply:You bet! He has started up a entirely new breed of racism. Its amazing the change he has already accomplished, too bad his changes go in the WRONG direction. If Condi Rice was running for Pres. She would have never played the race card- I would have voted for HER - she knows what shes doing!
Reply:These people are out of control. Certain elements of our right wing media and government are terrified of him because they are afraid he will effect real change.

They'll do ANYTHING to keep anybody who falls even a little bit left of center out of power.
Reply:I agree, he did not. The verbal dirt is being thrown from Clinton's side and when Obama opens his mouth to block or deflect her attack, some say he is complaining.

Yet he is still winning while Clinton fans are whining.
Reply:He constantly plays the race card. His whole mindset is divisive; he thinks in terms of "black" and "white".
Reply:NO!!

HE has never brought race into the picture...and this can be confirmed over the course of the race.

but when there were unavoidable issues....he stood up, said his piece, and went back to the issues
Reply:When Obama takes his mother on the campaign trail-I might not get so sick everytime I hear his voice.

And BTW: Obama's wife brings 'race' into it everytime she opens her mouth!
Reply:really Obama is neither white or black he is a mixture, once you put milk into coffee it is new, it is now neither milk or coffee.
Reply:Super-godmind; you are on to something there!! i like your thinking but your slightly wrong.

Milk is MILK...and coffee is coffee, when you add Milk to your coffee..IT IS STILL CONSIDERED COFFEE
Reply:It would seem your 2 cents are not even worth that friend.
Reply:billary is play both the race and sex card. she is pathetic.
Reply:Well we all know she's playing the sex card.
Reply:YES.................Now you are too.interesting behaivor from Obama supporters.
Reply:Yes Obama is the guilty one.
Reply:I blame it on those typical bitter white people
Reply:Nope.
Reply:yes he did...

like you are now!
Reply:I think he did...or actually the media started all this crap. Wolf asked a question in one of the debates...basically that a lot of people felt Bill Clinton was the first black president....it all went down hill from there. Obama was not happy....he did say he would have to see how well Clinton danced. That lightened the situation and I guess people thought there was not an issue with race.

Bill Clinton did make a comparison to Jesse Jackson's presidential race and Obama....then the stuff hit the fan. All during this time the media was making similar comparisons. The media set us all up. I will not watch CNN anymore!!

Like it or not...there are still people who harbor ill feelings. We just need to look for the good in everyone. Everyone brings something different to the table which is good!! Our experiences in life ultimately make us all better people. And we need to take care of ALL people in this country first before we go overseas.

Sorry, but I have a real issue with money going to Africa. We have people in this country who need help. Also the Clinton Foundation has poured tons of money over there. The UN needs to step in and make sure the money get to the people. Not the people in power!!

I am all for healthcare for everyone and I would gladly pay more. I read about a young child in Baltimore that died because of a tooth....that should never happen! Never, ever!!
