In fact, you guys (Obama supporters) are STILL trashing Senator Clinton! Sorry, you have gone too far and have pushed many of us Clinton supporters over to the republican side. You should have been less strident in your denunciations of Senator Clinton. For example, using the race card to smear both Senator and President Clinton as racists was so far beyond the pale it is hard to even fathom. And claiming that Senator Clinton was "destroying the party" by continuing to fight for the nomination in accordance with the rules, well, it's all really terrible treatment of her. And now there are paid Obama bloggers reaching out to Clinton supporters to try to kiss and make up, and to try to get us over to Obama's side. Well guess what? It's too late; the damage has been done. I tell you the only thing that has even a glimmer of working if you want us back: Obama naming Senator Clinton as his VP. Anything short of that will definitely result in a massive defection to McCain.
Why do Obama supporters expect Clinton supporters to back Obama after how badly they trashed Senator Clinton?
I agree.
McCain 08
Reply:so you would vote for psycho McCain (bush's 3rd term) out of spite? This is not a game. I can't stand Hillary Clinton I hate her with a passion but if she was to become the nominee fairly I would vote for her rather than end up with a psycho nut job like McCain running this country. You need to wake up!
Reply:it is a real shame about all this bashing both parties on the democrat side for president
Reply:It's politics. Get over it, and let's get Obama elected President! I saw a helluva lot more Obama bashing from the Clinton side than I EVER saw Clinton bashing. And I'm talking about the most vile hateful stuff I've ever seen. I thought it was Republicans, but nope, it was Hillary supporters playing directly from the Karl Rove playbook.
I'm calling your bluff. You will not vote for McCain. To do so is saying to Hillary "We never believed in what you believe, and we thought your positions were all wrong". Obama and Clinton are almost identical on the issues. Will you really do a 180 on your values and beliefs just because she lost the nomination? No, I don't believe you will.
Reply:For the record, I do not support either candidate nor either party (nor 3rd parties for that matter).
But Obama supporters didn't use the race card on Senator Clinton nor Bill Clinton. The media used it on Bill Clinton, and no one used it on Senator Clinton at all. And for good measure (though you probably know this already, but for Obama supporters), Clinton never used the gender card either.
I will say SOME Obama supporters did say she was destroying the party; but only long after the Democrat party members themselves began saying it; it should be noted that Obama has been very supportive of Clinton being allowed to stay in the race.
But even if you choose to continue believing they are in the wrong, I do understand. But wouldn't it really be destroying the party if you switched sides solely to punish those who chose Obama? Clinton and Obama have been fairly close in their voting records, and Clinton has been supporting Obama more and more lately. Even if she doesn't win this nomination, she stays in the Senate.
A Senate that has been seriously deadlocked because of a Republican President that keeps veto-ing everything they've tried to do. A Democrat President (even Obama) would help greatly in getting a lot of Democratic legislation passed; and some of that legislation no doubt would be of Clinton's authorship. It could go a long way toward helping her image of getting things done and having experience that could help her run again the next time around; but it only works if Obama wins.
I understand the anger. Clinton was and is an excellent candidate. But it helps her to help him. You should decide on the issues. If you believe McCain would be better, by all means vote for him. He is an excellent candidate himself. But don't do it just to punish Obama supporters; he's a good guy and they believe in him as much as you did (and continue to believe in) Clinton.
Most of the infighting was actually caused by the media looking for a fight to cover. In truth, both Obama and Clinton maintained an amazing dignity and grace that I have not seen in some time out of any politician. That is something to be proud of, not to fight over.
