These tactics may or may not hurt the Democrats. Generally, the media protects the Democrats more so than the Republicans so they might be quick to report on and condem any statments made by Republicans as either racist or sexist, even if the statements in question were purely attacks on policies. Whether the public can see through this is another story. With the proliferation of the Internet the big media's strong hold as a monopoly on the dissemination of news has been weekened and people more and more have begus to see through their biases. I believe that if the media and the Democrats overdo the claims about sexism and/or especially the claims about racism, the American people will get fed up and take their frustration out at the ballot box, but we shall have to wait and see.
